Terms of Service

1. About these terms

These terms govern your use of BunCho's reading site in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Traditional Chinese (bun-cho.work/en, /es, /pt, /zh-hant), operated by the operator of BunCho (bun-cho.work). By using the site you agree to them.

2. Who can use it

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you need a parent or guardian's permission to make payments. Works rated 18+ are shown only to logged-in users who confirm they are 18 or older.

3. Reading is free

Reading published stories is free and will stay free. Optional paid features are described below; none of them is required to read a story.

4. Authors' works and translations

Authors keep all rights in their works. A work is translated only if its author has allowed translation, and the author can withdraw that permission for future translations.

Translations are produced with AI assistance and spot-checked. They may contain mistakes; the Japanese original is always linked. Please report problems using "Report translation issue".

You may not copy, republish or use works or translations to train AI models without the author's permission.

5. Paid features

Credits are prepaid and expire 180 days after purchase. Gifts, early access, plays and AI reader features are paid with credits. Purchases are non-refundable except when content cannot be displayed or a similar defect occurs.

Translation fund pledges are one-time payments toward translating specific episodes. If a fund does not reach its goal within 60 days, every pledge is refunded automatically to the original payment method. Backers get 7 days of early access to the funded episodes; after that they are free for everyone.

Ad-free membership and monthly author support are subscriptions that renew monthly until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from the management page; access continues until the end of the paid period. We do not give partial refunds for the current period.

Payments are processed by Stripe. Accepted methods depend on your currency and may include cards, Link, Alipay and WeChat Pay (one-time payments only). Prices may include or add tax depending on your location.

6. Comments, reviews and reports

Don't post content that is illegal, harassing, sexual content involving minors, spam, or personal information. We review comments automatically and may hide or remove content and suspend accounts that break these rules.

7. Notice and action (EU Digital Services Act)

Anyone can report illegal content with the "Report" button on works, episodes, comments and reviews, or by email to support@bun-cho.work. We review reports promptly, tell the reporter and the affected user what we decided and why, and users can ask us to reconsider. Our single point of contact for authorities and users under the DSA is support@bun-cho.work (English or Japanese).

8. Disclaimers and liability

The site is provided as is. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer protection law in your country.

9. Changes and governing law

We may update these terms and will announce material changes on the site in advance. These terms are governed by the laws of Japan, without depriving consumers of the protection of mandatory laws of their country of residence.

10. Translation costs and royalties

Revenue earned by a work's translated editions (ads, gifts, early access, plays and similar income from the translated pages) is first used to repay that work's translation cost. Only the remainder goes into the royalty calculation.

Translation cost is the actual AI cost recorded for each episode (capped at Β₯15 per episode β€»). Costs covered by a reader translation fund count as already repaid.

Revenue from the Japanese edition and monthly author support are never used to repay translation costs. If translated revenue never covers the cost, the author owes nothing.

Authors see and accept this rule when they allow their work to be translated.
