Fountain Editor Online
A Fountain screenplay editor that runs in your browser. What you write is autosaved only in this browser and never sent to our servers.
What you can do next
Save to a private draft in the Studio (login needed; first-timers get a 7-day free trial).
In a saved work you can run Story Tests (foreshadowing, timeline, voice and continuity checks) and Story Refactoring.
How to use it
- Write Fountain on the left (scene headings start with INT./EXT. or a period; speakers are in capitals or start with @).
- A formatted screenplay preview appears on the right.
- Download .fountain or FDX, or print (save as PDF).
FAQ
Where is my script saved?
Only in this browser (localStorage). It is not available on other devices, so download a copy too.
Can I use names that are not in capitals?
Yes: put @ before the name, e.g. @Mina.
Can I open it in Final Draft?
Export FDX and it opens with paragraph types in Final Draft and similar apps.
